It has some things going for like the relationship between the two central characters, but unfortunately it just has too many setbacks that outweigh its strengths. In conclusion Mulan: Rise of a Warrior is a film with a lot of potential but sadly falls flat. Yet not due to the philospohical reasons as would be stated by a character like Li Mu Bai in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Here you have a character who is all for bringing honour to her family and defending her country, but equally is well aware of the fact that the war has cost her dearly in the loss of very close friends and the inability to support her father as he gets ill while she is away at war. Its message of the devestation and heartbreak caused by war are also nice. However there are other Rouran characters, such as the Rouran princess who understands the goodness of taking Chinese land, but is not a fan of all of the pillaging and fighting that is reuquired to acheive it (especially when she realises the war is mainly being fought for the ego of her brother the prince rather than for the actual good of the Rouran people. This feels very real through the film and you truly can sympathise with Mulans devestation when she is led to believe that Wentai has been killed in battle.Įqually the Rouran characters are portrayed well their leadership, especially the prince are portrayed as nasty, but also wanting what is best for their people. The film is certainly not all bad though, the relationship between Wentai and Mulan is certainly nice to watch as he finds out she is a woman early on and the two begin an ill fated relationship. The plot line of both warfare and a strong female character are a strong foundation for this film and yet through some lack of thinking it falls at the last hurdle and ends up squarely in the centre of mediocrity. This is all quite frustrating as the potential of this film to be truly fantastic is plain for all to see. They are no different to what would be seen in any film about ancient battles but without any of the epicness that can be seen in other great battle sequences that can be seen (like in Lord of the Rings or maybe Game of Thrones). One example would be when Wentai is captured and Mulan infiltrates the camp to resuce him, which all happens due to another Chinese general betraying them none of which felt particularly necessary and all could have been cut with no damage to the film itself.Įqually the fight scenes are simply not as good as can be found in other Wuxia films. Iį it had been a half hour shorter than it was it would have felt less bloated as a whole and the plot would have felt less padded out with various and unnecessary points within it. Like far too many period dramas it falls into the trap of thinking it needs a long run time, therefore it gets quite slow towards its third act and feels like it goes on somewhat. The film certianly has a large amount of potential but it has some major shortcomings that are hard to overlook. In this version Mulan fights as part of a 12 year war against the Rourans, a group of Mongolians. The film is the same basic story of Mulan so fans of the 1998 Disney film will somewhat know what to expect, though Jingle Ma stated his intention to make the film his own. Mulan: Rise of a warrior is a 2009 live action wuxia film directed by Jingle Ma and starring Zhao Wei as Mulan, Chen Kun as Wentai and Jaycee Chan (son of Jackie Chan) as Tiger.

So important is the song in hip-hop’s history that it’s been claimed as the genre’s “national anthem” and, in 1981, Sugar Hill Gang, the group who first took hip-hop into the charts with ‘Rapper’s Delight’, recorded a tribute, ‘Apache’, capturing the spirit of those early block parties. Their 1960 chart-topper ‘Apache’ was covered by The Incredible Bongo Band on their 1973 album, Bongo Rock, and it’s this latter version that soon found its way into the arsenal of every block-party DJ of the 70s, the mix-masters keeping its distinctive drumbeat going ad infinitum for breakdancers (or B-boys and B-girls) to bust a move to. Hip-hop’s unlikely heroes are The Shadows: a British instro combo led by bespectacled guitarist Hank Marvin, and best known for backing Cliff Richard. Legendary block party DJs such as Grandmaster Flash, Kool Herc and Afrika Bambaataa would scratch out the labels on the records they were playing with, in order to keep their sources secret – and keep their punters dancing. Though many songs might now be more recognisable for a track they were later sampled in, in many cases the producers would have been looking to bring obscure gems to light, both in order to surprise their listeners and ensure that their music was fresher than anyone else’s. And respects are being paid in the process: hip-hop producers wouldn’t build their work on something they thought was terrible. It’s all part of a wider patchwork, in which something old becomes something new in the hands of a younger generation. (Speaking of which: users of the remote access utility PuTTY can export an OpenSSH key from PuTTYgen.) When using OpenSSL on Windows in this way, you simply omit the openssl command you see at the prompt. Now you are ready to start creating your OpenSSL keys. Verifying the version of OpenSSL on Windows It will open a cmd window with the OpenSSL command prompt. To invoke OpenSSL, you can simply right-click on it in the Windows Explorer at its install location, for example in: C:\OpenSSL-Win64\bin\ We recommend installing OpenSSL outside of your Windows system directory. It is not the same thing at all so pay attention to the release numbers! The worst thing you can do is use an old version that has documented bugs that anyone could exploit following a howto! Step 2. The current version as of this writing (OpenSSL 1.1.0h) is very different from previous releases. For each version, there are two basic types: the full installer and the light installer.ĭownload the one named “Win64 OpenSSL v1.1.0f” (or a higher-numbered version once it becomes available) to get the full installer. Now you need to pick the right binary from the list. Scroll down the page to the section “Download Win32 OpenSSL”, ignoring the confusing string. To download them, navigate to: ĭon’t be fooled by the Win32 string in the URL nor by the navigation pointing you to a seemingly ancient download page from way back in 2004 (from the “Products” tab through the “Win32 OpenSSL link”). Get hold of the binariesįinding Windows binaries of OpenSSL is not an easy task, but don’t get discouraged. Here is how you can set up OpenSSL on Windows without having to deal with the code. (Didn’t Microsoft want to “Linuxify” its flaggship OS? Never mind.) If you want to run it, you need a Windows binary, and unless you are willing to compile it yourself, you have to to rely on someone else. While Linux distributions routinely come loaded with OpenSSL, this is not the case for Windows… or shall we say “Windows distributions”. Too bad the official OpenSSL website offers Linux sources only. While you can’t do much about the yet-to-be-identified bugs, you can at least protect your systems from those bugs that have been already patched up and widely documented. Let’s not forget that your car is most likely hackable by a 15 year old and yet you still (presumably) lock the doors. Even so, the inherent flaws of OpenSSL should not be an excuse for not keeping the version you use as bullet-proof as possible. This may be unavoidable, to a certain degree - after all, we are speaking about software. This open source cryptography library that implements the Transport Layer Security (TLS) and Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocols is designed to “secure communications over computer networks against eavesdropping”, but guess what: it has been riddled with bugs since its inception. In the age of cyber warfare, being paranoid is the only reasonable attitude and that means, among other things, being paranoid about software updates. I have now lost days fighting how Creo wants to do a helical sweep. Modeling parts, even simple parts, is a nightmare. I am, however, seriously questioning the assumption that anyone would actually want to use this program. While I can see that Creo has strengths in analysis and that in comparison it appears to be a light weight program that runs better on older machines. I've used Solidworks and Ansys extensively for the last 3 years. I am dealing with a final project in a design elective I am being required to use Creo.
